Pightle Barn

One wedding a day.

From 9am until the carriages at midnight, the barn, the orchard and the cottages are yours alone.

Or come to the open day on Sunday 15 November

A threshing barn of about 1790 at Harlton, six miles south-west of Cambridge, kept by Hannah and Tom Fairweather, whose family farms the fields around it. Weddings here since 2016.

The Threshing Barn, laid for 150

The day, by the clock.

9am

The barn is yours

Florists and stylists arrive, and you get ready in the Granary, the old grain store on staddle stones.

1pm

The ceremony

On the old threshing floor, or under the Bramley trees in the orchard from May to September.

2pm

Drinks in the cart lodge

Canapés from our kitchen, the bar in the open bays and the whole yard to spill out into.

4pm

The wedding breakfast

Up to 150 at long tables under the oak trusses, with three courses cooked in the barn's own kitchen.

7.30pm

The great doors open

Evening guests arrive, up to 220 in all, and the first dance is on the brick threshing floor.

Midnight

Carriages

The music stops at midnight. Bed is a walk across the yard, in the Stable Cottages.

Four old buildings round one yard.

The barn was built to thresh wheat by hand, with great doors on both sides so the wind carried the chaff away. The yard round it is still laid out as it was.

The Threshing Barn

Black weatherboard outside, limewash and oak queen-post trusses inside, and the original brick threshing floor between the great doors. Licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships.

150

seated, 220 in the evening

The Orchard

Old Bramley apple trees behind the barn, for ceremonies outside from May to September, with the barn made ready in case it rains.

120

seated, under the trees

The Cart Lodge

Five open bays facing the yard: the bar, the drinks reception, two fire pits and a wood-fired oven.

220

standing, for drinks

The Granary

A little grain store raised on staddle stones, where the two of you get ready in the morning.

“We married under the orchard trees and danced on the threshing floor until the carriages came. Hannah had thought of everything before we did.”

What it costs in 2027.

Venue hire is the whole day, 9am to midnight, and two nights in the cottages. Food and drink are priced on their own, so you pay only for the guests you invite.

We hold a date for seven days, free, while you decide. A quarter of the hire secures it, and the rest is due twelve weeks before the day.
